I usually like to have my computer clean every few months, as well as a upgrade, but I can't do it since I didn't build my current computer (In June or July, I will build one)

The other day I was digging around in the garage and found an old beige keyboard from back in the days when I smoked.

    Yuk.

Maybe I can sell it on e-bay as a smoking cessation aid. They can absorb the nicotine through their fingers as they type without smoking.

Several months ago there was a thread about how to clean a computer.  Several very knowledgeable people were totally opposed to using vacuum cleaners.

I recently read an article about cell phones and cancer.  Wish i could find it for a reference.  In effect it said there is no link between cell phone use and cancer, like most other studies have proven.

But what jumped out at me was a chart the article used to compare cell phone EMF (electromagnetic fields) to other household appliances.  The vacuum cleaner by a huge, huge margin gave off the biggest EMF.

Makes me wonder if that is part of the problem some people have had with vacuum cleaners.

Aside from the EMF given off (which is usually localized to the actual cleaner... it doesn't travel down the hose, for example) is the fact that the sucking action can cause a build-up of static electricity.

Whenever it begins to smell of over-cooked flies/mice/roaches etc...

Dismantled and cleaned a keyboard a couple of days ago and was very surprised to find it actually works again.

And destroy fan motors and/or bearings by overspeeding.

Yes, that too. I always forget about that one. that is an issue to watch with compressed air, as well.

I have heard of components, surface mounted or socketed (e.g. RAM modules) getting sucked off, if you'll pardon the expression, by incautious use of a powerful vacuum cleaner. Another thing: when using canned air, leave socketed items in their slots, that way dust & debris does not get in the slots and potentially cause connection problems.

My computers are sealed up - air tight. They don't get dirty.
So, how do they get cooled inside?

Hmm, an upgrade every few months?  I envy you.  But, you can't upgrade because you didn't build your current computer?  That makes no sense.  Are you saying you can only upgrade a computer that you built?
