New keyboard problem (PC won't boot up)
    « on: March 31, 2010, 08:19:49 AM »
Was recently given a brand new Dell keyboard (RT7D50).  Since mine is starting to show some wear, I thought I would just plug this one in.

Didn't quite work out that way.   My PC (running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3) would not even boot up.   I put the old one back on and booted up that way (screen resolution was all screwed up too).  I attempted to do the switch after that but the PC just ignores the new keyboard when I try that (I swear I even hear it *sniff* in an arrogant way).   Running an AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ if that helps.   3.25 GB ram.   Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT video card.

I hope your not swapping keyboards while the PC is powered up...

At any rate keyboards aren't that expensive...it coulda been DOA.

I did actually try to switch them after booting when the first attempt didn't work.    I was wondering if the keyboard was just bad out of the box (brand new).   But the fact that installing it prevented the PC from booting up at all made me wonder if it was some other issue.

Someone just told me it could be a BIOS problem...is that a possibility?
