Browsers fail to display certain sites!
« on: April 04, 2010, 11:45:56 PM »
I just formatted a PIII for my friend. Installed Win XP SP3 and a Wireless Edimax USB card. All functioned well. However, browsers (IE, Firefox and Google Chrome) fail to display certain websites including www.microsoft.com, AVG, etc. I am unable to validate Windows and download MS Essentials. Same happens when I use a different connection (USB WiFi dongle). However, sites display when Windows is booted in safe mode with network.

fail to display certain websites
So meaning to say, you can browse in other websites.

Can you please try if you can browse Facebook, Google, Yahoo, and Computer Hope.
Also try to ping those websites. Start > run > type 'cmd' then hit OK > in the command prompt window type 'ping www.facebook.com'

Next, can you please try if you can browse websites of anti-virus. www.kaspersky.com, www.avira.com, www.trendmicro.com
Also try to ping those websites. 'ping www.kaspersky.com'

i remember that happened to my laptop once, i could go to some websites and receive an error for some. i couldnt get any update from microsoft and i couldnt update my antivirus either. i had an idea from nowhere that told me to download and run malwarebytes. i did,  it found 67 infections on my laptop. i removed all infected files and my computer was back as normal, i could receive updates from microsoft and antivirus. that was my story, it can be yours too. download and run malwarebytes if found any infection post your log and a specialist will help you.
