    Outlook .pst file
    « on: April 28, 2010, 01:41:00 PM »
I created an image of my computer so that I could restore it in the event of a crash, this happened , but I found that I cannot restore the image.  I can get into the image and I have found and recovered all of my data and programs.  The only thing I have not managed to find is my outlook email folder, I know that I am looking for a file marked .pst, but I do not know where to locate it, I cannot find a file for outlook in the Programs folder.  Would the file I am after be located elsewhere?

    Many thanks.

I believe it's in your Profile folder (on XP, you'll find that in your username folder within C:\Documents and Settings)

As far as imaged drives are concerned, it's always a good idea to test the restore functionality of your backup software. a backup is useless if you can't restore it! At least you are still able to access the files that you backed up.

I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Do a search on your system for Outlook.pst

Do a search on your system for Outlook.pst

    That won't help.

He's looking inside an image file :P

    Ahh :)

I believe the outlook.pst file is in the MSOffice folder (I'm not 100% certain because I always move mine to a specific folder).

I don't like where the default is set to, but I don't change it since my preferred email client is Thunderbird.  You can find your *.pst files such as outlook.pst and archive.pst at this path:
      %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Hope that saves you some time.
