monitor only works in safe mode
    « on: May 10, 2010, 10:48:37 AM »
I just recieved a 1999 compaq computer that runs windows 2000 professional version 5.0 2195 service pack 2 and the monitor that I'm trying to use is a Sun Microsystem model GDM-5010 Pt. It will only show the screen when I run it's in safe mode. When I try to start it in the normal mode it goes through the process of starting windows but then goes black and just starts clicking. Any Idea's.

I think refresh rate is set too for monitor.
Start windows, press F8 and take the option VGA only. This will allow you to log in with viewable resolution.  Then right-click desktop, select Properties, then Settings tab, Advanced, Monitor tab, set refresh to 60Hz.
