Message error virus infected
« on: June 28, 2010, 07:45:17 PM »
I got this "Security Warning" message on my laptop. Right now I am using my desktop b/c I cannot get online. I am using Vista on my laptop. This is the message: "Application cannot be executed. The file googleupdater service.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now? Yes or No.  If I click No the message will not disappear, when I click Yes, it takes me to a site to purchase software called "AV" not AVG.  Help me please. This is my first time on this site, WOW I read other postings and I am impressed. Thank you.

Looks like you have one of those fake Anti viruses.

Those things are a pain to remove based on my experience. If you have a backup or a system image, you could attempt to recover your computer to an earlier time.

if not, you may need to use an anti malware like malwarebytes and go into safe mode and try to remove it.
