    Freeze/BSOD 0x00000116 Windows Vista
    « on: July 29, 2010, 07:07:31 PM »
    Hello,

Oh before I begin, I'm not great with computers so please bare with me.

Since last week, my computer has been getting bsods, freeze ups, and sometimes the screen goes black and turns back normal. ALL BSODS AND FREEZE UPS APPEAR AT RANDOM TIMES. However, most of the time it appears when I play games.

    My computer stats are..
    HP Pavillion a6452f -- Desktop
    Windows Vista 32bit
    NVIDIA Geforce 8500 GT
    Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
    RAM- 3GB

I have spoken with some people in the chatroom and they told me to update drivers and such. Updating drivers didn't work.

Can anyone please help me with my problem???

      Here's the normal set.
Oh and I had different temperatures before, but I got another BSoD.
Before the BSoD the cores were 46C approx. , GPU 80 and temp1-3 stayed mainly the same

      Results after the BSoD
      GPU-77C
      Temp1-45C
      Temp2-46C
      Temp3-49C
      Core0-51C
      Core1-51C
      Core2-51C
      Core3-51C

Max. temp. for your processor is listed at 60.3C, so you're on a warmer side.

      Download BlueScreenView
      No installation required.
Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Triple check your vid card drivers and make sure they are the proper ones...then re-install them and re-boot...

NOTE They should come from the nVidia website...not thru Windows Update.

Then re-install your MBoard chipset drivers as that board may have an nVidia chipset as well...those drivers will be on the Driver CD that came with the machine or available at the HP website...

Where did you downloaded nVidia driver from?
            Link, please.
Did you uninstall current driver first?
What's the computer brand and model?

I have tried without and with uninstalling the current drivers first.

Can you re-run BlueScreenView to see, if you're getting same kind of errors?

                      Same driver at fault.

Go back to HP site, download and install chipset driver (Spring 2008 Original Intel Chipset Driver).
If that doesn't help, your video chip may be failing.
You may need to buy real video card.

Now, you have just on-board video chip, not a real video card.
                        Those chips fail sometime.

As for new video card, almost any card will do. It depends, what you use your computer for.
You only need to know, what type of slots you have available, PCI, AGP, or PCIEx

                          Thanks for all your help!

                          Oh  last questions!
Do I get rid of the video chip when I get a new video card?
How can I tell whether its a video card not a chip?

                          Thanks again!

                          You're welcome :)

You do have on-board video chip: Spring 2008 Original NVIDIA Unified Graphics Driver

When you install new video card, it'll automatically disable on-board video. Nothing to remove.

You need to buy PCI-Ex type card then.

I think its an actual graphics card as that pci-e slot is taken.

I was looking at original computer configuration. Someone might have installed video card.
                                    To make sure....

You can tell, if you have on-board video, or separate video card by looking at the back of your computer.
If the monitor is connected somewhere in Area 1, you have on-board video.
If the monitor is connected somewhere in Area 2, you have real video card.

Your picture is not sharp enough for me to see.

Look at the port in area 1, where your monitor is connected to.
Then see, if you have another port like that in area 2.

There isn't a slot like that in area 2
And what part of it do you need to see mroe sharply, to tell what it is?

Put more light on it, to start with.
Then, make sure, the focus is little bit better.

                                          Yeah, cool.
This IS your video card NVIDIA Geforce 8500 GT C403H.
What they did for whatever reason....you can see cables, which go from your video card, most likely to video port in area 1.

Check it those cables are well connected.
While computer off, try to remove that video card and put it back.
                                          See, what will happen.

                                            Hmmm thank you!

                                            So, has my situation changed?
And I just take the screws off and take it out?
Do you require some force to take it out?
I've had many incidents where you weren't supposed to force it out and the object broke  ;D

Hmm.. i just noticed i asked alot of questions there..

                                            No worries :)
If there is screw ( I can't see from here :)), surely remove it and them wobble the card a little. It should go out.
Make sure to touch some bare metal part of your computer first to discharge any static electricity from your body.

well.. i tried taking it out, but just to make sure.. the vga and that other slot is part of the graphics card??
Also, do I have to re-insert the card??? I feel nervous about taking the card out..
It's also connected to something with this wire... the end of the wire has a flat point with 2 very small pieces of metal coming out and the metal pieces are stuck between the graphics card pretty tight...Should i force it out?

I don't think so. Video card is just one piece.
                                                Leave wires alone.
Yes, you need to remove it and put it back.
What happens, sometimes connectors (card's bottom part, which goes into the slot) got oxidized and the connection is not that good anymore.
By moving it out and in, you can make the connection better.

If that doesn't help, IMHO, you really need new card.

If it comes to replacing video card, you won't need that wire at all.
You'll remove a metal plate, which covers the access to the card's "*censored*" and the card will have its own VGA slot, which will be sticking out through a hole in the back of your computer.

But the wire isn't connected to the vga slot.  Its connected to something on the motherboard

You know, I'm not sure here.
I'm not really a hardware guy and even if I was, I can't know every computer model.
This is some rather unusual setup.
Without really seeing it in person, it's hard to advice.
You may need to get an identical card...

In any case, try to remove it and put it back.
That's the first step, no matter what.

Hey Broni, I was going to search to see if there was anything to help for taking out the card, but while I was searching my screen went black, and seconds later it said there was no vga input.  I checked if everything was connected. (they were) Does this mean that my graphics card is officially dead?
I am currently on my older computer

                                                        It's getting more likely so.
                                                        Still, try to re-seat it.
