    pci-express puzzle

    simple one please
    Can you connect any kind of pci express card to a pci-express x 16 slot

    ie
    ATI is a pci-express card
    Nvidia is a Pci-express card

    do they or can they both fit into the same pci-express type slot

    single card only not SLI or Crossfire

    my motherboard is crossfire compatible which i don't use
    i just want to fit a nvidia card in a single pci-express slot

    As long as they are x16 cards they are both compatible with x16, despite the Manufacturer.

    You may want to refer to the board manual, but I think if you want to use a single vid. card in a cross fire/SLI board, you have to use a determined slot..ie: only one of the two slots will work for single card setup....  Might want to double check on that as I said

    they are simply PCI-E 16x slots. you can use either slot for a video card of either brand. The "special" feature is simply that the two slots can be used for SLI. They are still standard PCI-E 16x slots despite this.
    I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

    Yes you are right, I had a second look at a random board manual with SLI capabilites.. I guess I read it incorrectly at some point..
