sorry for not being more specific. I did open add/remove and it was not listed. The problems it causes are hanging up, freezing, and really slowed down. I ran two anti-virus and spyware programs to be sure there was not a problem there and everything was find. I also tried Microsofts recommendations from their site but still cannot get rid of it.

Hi. Try running www.CCleaner.com  There could be a lot of Temp files and other junk built up in there, which will slow things down. If there has been a lot of install and uninstal activity, I would run the registry tool in CCleaner as well, after having first saved the registry files ( it will ask if you want to that before "Fixing" things ). Another good app is PCDecrapifier.

The OP mentioned going back to IE6, do you not have to have IE7 before you can properly install
IE8 and if you do have IE7 is it actually possible to even revert to IE6. I was under the assumption that once you did have IE6 or later you could not totally uninstall IE because of it's integration with the OS, especially
if it's XP. In any event Windows Explorer should display it in Program files and Documents and settings /Application Data (showing hidden files) for uninstalling, shouldn't it not? Maybe give Revo
Uninstaller a try to see if it shows up there.

I have no idea why one would want to uninstall IE...but that's just me.

Do you normally have two anti-virus programs running?  That's a no-no.

So, now what?  Are you going to use the security-hazardous IE6?  Follow the advice here and at least get IE7.

Even MS has given up on IE 6.  Some one held a mock funeral for IE 6 and MS sent flowers.

No they didn't. If I recall, they released HUGE security updates to IE6 quite recently.

They have and they haven't.  MS has agreed to support IE 6 until 2014 but they are trying to get everyone to upgrade.

For more information about IE 6.

I have an old PIII/XP computer with IE6 and it still receives IE6 updates.  Got some this week on Update Tuesday.

Well then I will! It drives me potty when designing new sites. PNG transparency is non-existant.
