Unable to connect

I have this friend who told me that she cannot connect to the internet with an error message saying " error connecting to server, please check your dialtone......."

How can i help her?

    Well ...Larry it would help to know if her dialup connection has been working ? How do you know that her ISP doesnt have problems ? Is her pc on a dedicated phone line .......? Is this the first time this has occurred ?
