    smitty.....I was looking at the symantec site and I see there's a new virus called W32.Korgo.l .....and what it does is prevent your system from getting updates from Norton , Microsoft and possibly Aw-aware .......if you can get there .....   http://www.symantec.com/index.htm
    look at latest threats .....there is a removal tool there which may help you . You may have to use another pc and copy it to a disk or cd and then run it on your machine ...

    have you checked your security settings in IE?
    tools/internet options/ security/custom level/ downloads=enable.

    heres a workaround you can use until this is resolved

    right click on the file you want to download and choose save.

    in the save window, change the extension to something else like ".old"

    after it downloads just rename the file to the proper extension.

    when i click a link to dl it goes to the "getting file information" page, then it says the website is unavailable

    You can always format and reinstall Windows.

    Unless you've tried that as well.

    Did you contact your ISP?
