    command prompt
    « on: August 30, 2010, 09:01:06 AM »
Upon booting up my pc and going to "programs" I noticed my "command prompt" was listed in the list.
Question: I opened it-do I need to do anything as in a "command?" If so what? Is this normal?

Sorry, don't understand the question. I understand you see the icon for the command prompt, but after that you lost me.

Okay, so you are asking what it is for, is that correct? It's just what it says, a Command Prompt Window. There are certain inquiries or commands that need to be made at a command prompt. If you do not specifically need to use it, don't. Just forget it's there until such time as you may need it.

I just never saw it in the "all programs" window before is all and wondered if I had a. done something wrong  inadvertantly (and it was causing my computer to not perform "normally" or I was hurting something...)

When would I ever use it?

        Thanks

You can move icons anywhere you like - it won't effect anything. And most average users will not use it. Again, don't worry about it.

The command prompt is NOT dos. XP is not built on a dos shell, but rather an NT shell. The command prompt is just that - a command prompt. But please, let's not confuse the OP. Thank you.
