Can I upgrade my motherboard to use more memory?
« on: August 29, 2010, 09:32:02 AM »
My computer has 2 memory slots but with a 1 gig limit per slot.  Can I upgrade my motherboard to use a 2 gig chip per slot?

Here is some of my computer specs;
Pentium 4 CPU 3.06ghz
Microsoft XP professional
HP Pavilion 061
System Model: EL479AA-ABA a1221n
Bios ver: 08.00.10

Thanks for any input!
Chris

If your board is limited to recognise 1GB per slot, there's no way to get around that, no.
How have you determined this is the case, though?  Often manuals and manufacturer's specs aren't updated and it's possible you can use 2GB sticks in the slots, but of course I wouldn't advise trying it blindly as it'd be a waste of money if it didn't work.
