battlefront 2 (starwars)

i just bought starwars battlefront 2 off of STEAM and when i try to play it it takes me to my desk top. i can load the game but its when i click play or any of the buttons that it closes the game. i sent a email to STEAM but they are taking there time on this. i tried reinstalling the game but have the same issue.
My PC has windows 7 and a I5 processor with a 250gtx nvidia video card.
any advise?

he said....
go to the Control Panel
double click Sound to open it
go to the Recording tab (second one over)
right click in any open area within the tab
select Show Disabled Devices
select Stereo Mix and turn it on

problem solved

can someone explain how that works please?
just very confused how sound fixed my problem...
