    backup type differences
    « on: October 11, 2010, 09:25:13 PM »
Please introduce great ways to understand the differences between incremental backup and differential backup. Hard to differ these two...
    Thanks a lot

I've asked help from Google... But practical operation failed.

Perhaps you did not enter the correct search terms. It`s obvious from your post about opensource software that you may not be fairing well in class.

Definiteness backup contains are all files that have changed since the last FULL backup and the advantage of a differential backup is that it shortens restore time compared to a full backup or an incremental backup.

Now, here given below Advantages and Disadvantages: :

        Advantages
           1. Restore is faster than restoring from incremental backup
           2. Backing up is faster than a full backup
           3. The storage space requirements are lower than for full backup

        Disadvantages:
           1. Restore is slower than restoring from full backup
           2. Backing up is slower than incremental backup
           3. The storage space requirements are higher than for incremental backup
