.NET Framework problem
« on: October 30, 2010, 07:35:05 AM »
Hi guys, so I wanted to uninstall .net framework 2.0 and then reinstall it again, so I downloaded Windows install cleanup.
I uninstalled .net framework 2.0 sp2 which I assumed was the right one. Then i downloaded the .net framework 2.0 redistributable and tried to install it, but it said "setup cannot continue because this version of the .net framework is incompatible"
So I figured I had to uninstall all versions except 1.1
Well I did that, but now I'm not sure what versions I need and in what order.
Have I totally screwed my computer lol?  :-\
Any help would be much appreciated.

Oh, and I tried to download Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer) thinking it would install the versions I needed for me, but it came up with "Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 has already been installed on this computer."

.NET Framework versions are independent. It's not like one version is an upgrade of another one.
.NET Framework is not a "must have" component.
You need some particular version only, if some program asks for it.

You can use this tool: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx to remove all versions and....wait until something demands any .NET Framework.

Thank you very much, I noticed this doesn't remove 4.0.
Why would I get the error message I posted earlier if I had removed 4.0.
Did I miss some 4.0 files or something  ???

Edit: It worked great, CCC demanded version 2.0 on startup, so I downloaded it.
Problem solved as far as I can see :)
Thanks again.
