FED, are suggesting using onboard sound?  I have been keeping away from that, since I heard it robs RAM.  Is this incorrect?

Have you checked your bios to make sure the onboard sound is disabled?

I am still looking for a website and/or person who can verify this!

I do think that it takes away resources, as most of the sound processing would have to happen on the mainboard instead of on a soundcard where the  soundcard would have its own processor.

I use onboard sound on 3 computers and have never had a problem with it.
You can use either but I don't think trying to use both at the same time would be much good.
I suspect that's what is happening to you now.
Delete / uninstall all sound related stuff (hardware/drivers), go into bios & make your choice then install the drivers accordingly.

Not stability wise, ofcourse. But gamers are bound to notice when using software to measure PC performance.

Well.....I got tired of screwing with it.  Plus I installed XP64.  I decided to use the onboard sound.  Although, I still have no sound at all.  I checked the bios it is set to auto, the Creative sound card has been removed.  Still I get no output.  Any ideas? Something I might be missing here?

Type dxdiag in the run box.........and also check the sound is not muted? and check that your pc is using the on board sound..........dxdiag should tell you.

Did you go to the mobo manufacturer's web site and download the drivers for the onboard sound card, then at that point you can install your aftermarket soundcard and install those drivers from disc. Windows does not hold drivers for your mobo sound card and without those installed it will shut out sound all together.

Download aida32/sisoftsandra   to find out what you have........or type hwinfo32 in the run box...........or look at the device manager......

"Did you go to the mobo manufacturer's web site and download the drivers for the onboard sound card"

The Abit mobo site, does not have the windows64 drivers,  I have tried both the regular driver set and the Nvidia win64 drver set.  The problem remained the same.

Merlin, I'm gonna try your suggestion later this evening, I'll let you know.

Tsk Tsk. Never heard of driver cleaner? It also works for Soundcard Drivers, with the likes of Creative, AC97 etc, give that a try.

        http://www.drivercleaner.net/download.php?site=1&file=DCProSetup_12.zip

        hope that helped.

OK, ran the driver cleaner, I found my install disk for the sound card, but when I run it, I get a message

        "no SoundBlaster sound card found"

But there are no xp64 drivers so you are screwed.

Because you removed it so you are screwed.

I'd expect there would be no xp64 drivers for the soundblaster card should you decide to reinstall it.

Look for xp64 drivers for your soundblaster card before reinstalling it.
