Java: JRE 6 update 22 will not install

What does exactly happen, when you try to install Java 6 Update 22?
Any errors?

What AV/firewall do you use?

I use Avast anti-virus and the windows firewall. I have tried to install with them on and have turn them both off and get the same results. Windows installer comes up, then the java update comes up and runs almost all the way through then a messages comes up that says : The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the Java(TM) 6 update 20 disk and click OK. ( At the bottom): Use source and in the rectanglular box is the number 1 and along beside is the browse box. I click cancel and an error message pops up Error 1714 The older version of Java 6 update 22 can not be removed. Contact your technical support group. I click cancel and Java setup says The wizard was interupted before Java 6 update 22 could be installed. To complete installation  at another time, please run setup again. That's all. Thanks Broni

Try this....

Download "offline" Java 6 Update 22 file.

Then...

Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).

Click on Startup tab.
Click Disable all
IMPORTANT! In case of laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.

Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.

Click OK.
Restart computer in Normal Mode.

NOTE. If you use different firewall, than Windows firewall, turn Windows firewall on, just for this test, since your regular firewall won't be running.
If you use Windows firewall, you're fine.

Try to install Java now.

Hey Broni, success at last. I saw the error asking for Java 6 updates 20 so I downloaded that file from Old Windows Files and tried to install it. It ran for a while and then a new error message came up that said Java 6 update 20 was already installed. I checked in add and remove programs and it was listed along with Java updater. I don't understand this because I installed the old Java with Revo when this problem started. I tried removing it with the windows uninstaller but it wasn't able to  find it. So I tried java ra, it said it had removed all Java but when I checked add and remove programs it was still listed. I then tried Revo and it uninstalled it. I then tried to install Java 6 update 20 and ti worked fine, then I tried Java 6 update 22 and it installed. I then checked add and remove programs and all that is listed is Java 6 update 22. I don't know where update 20 came from because I was running 21 before all this started. I really want to thank you for your help. Coming to Computer Hope is always a pleasant experience. Hope all of you guys and gals have a very happy thanksgiving.
