Choose from the following programs:

Virus scanners
AVG Free
-- Anti virus scanner
Trend Micro Housecall
-- Online anti virus scanner.

Anti spy/malware
Microsoft Antispyware
-- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP Home and Professional only.
Spybot Search & Destroy
-- Anti spyware scanner
Adaware SE Personal
-- Anti spyware scanner

Firewalls
Use both a hardware and software firewall.
Be advised as dual software firewalls may cause problems

ZoneAlarm Free
-- Free firewall - more user friendly
Sygate Personal
-- Free firewall - more configuration options

Removal tools
The following files are not substitutes for the ones described above.
They are either diagnostic tools or removal tools for malware of a certain kind

HijackThis
-- Manual malware remover. Post the HijackThis log generated only if requested!
McAfee Stinger
-- Virus removal tool. No substitute for a fully functional virus scanner!
CWshredder
-- CoolWebSearch removal tool. Widely known and persistant Hijacker.

There are no activation requirements or updating limitations on w2k.
It will do me until something better comes along and xp doesn't fill that bill.

Bullguard has been tested by Sharman Networks, distributor of Kazaa Media Desktop

Whenever I hear or (see) the name Kazaa and another product mentioned in the same breathe or (line) I cringe.

I would get a proven Anti Virus app like .........
Norton , McAfee , AVG , Kasperasky or even Panda .

shell26......  If you have Norton , thats a good proven AV .....
If you are using win XP , I would definately D/L .......
Microsoft antispyware Beta ......it's very good .....
        http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
I would also get the latest version of Ad-Aware SE personal ........
        http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html
I would also get SpyBot Search and Destroy........
        http://www.tucows.com/preview/310138

As far as a firewall is concerned .......Zone Alarm is a good one .....but there are others as well......
The one that is part of Win XP SP2 .......works ok to block things coming in ....but doesn't do the job on outgoing things .
