That sounds a bit like Hampstead for Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum.  My memory of the game is quite fuzzy, though.  But I remember that you had to get to a bus or train and I do believe there was a part where you can get mugged when leaving your apartment.  The game appears to be quite rare, so it will be hard to test it out, but if I come across it, I'll let you know.

Nope that one's way too old, it had graphics that one only had a blue screen and dicriptions in text unless I have a bad version of it, I borrowed it from my friend who has like every c64 game ever made and ran it on my new pc via emulator straight of the disc drive. It can't be that since the place u start is a very detailed graphic room well very detailed when compared to blue screen lol

My bad I think I may have said in earlier post it might even be c64 game, but unless I'm wrong it couldn't be that from what I recall all c64 games were blue screen with text and no graphics or at least all adventure style ones.

Quite a few text adventures did indeed consist of no more than a blue screen with text, but a fair number of them did include graphics, usually in the form of the occasional still image.  And the C64 was actually capable of some rather impressive graphics for its time.

Unfortunately, Hampstead is really the only game I can think of offhand that sounds similar to the game you played.  Recalling a lot of those old games can be quite difficult.  If you're interested, here's a bit more info, including tape images and magazine articles:

I suggest looking for a forum that is dedicated to retro gaming...that is probably your only chance of finding a definitive answer.

Oh wow thanks dude, I think that may be it, for some reason the version my friend had was older or maybe a different game all together with same name. I will check it out and update as solved if it turns out to be for sure but the in game still looks exactly like the one I played. If u did indeed find it thank u so much and u r so awesome. I been searching for it for almost 20 years so its about time. I will let u know for sure when I get a chance to check it out I am on my mobile now and only able to see sceen shots not download and test anything or i'd look into it more now.

Well, hopefully I'm right!  I know what it's like to spend years trying to figure out the name of a game.  I myself have spent quite some time trying to find one that I played on the NES...unfortunately, I'm starting to think I made it up!

no I guess it's not close on the graphics though, I think it was similar style, but the one I played started out in a totally different room and I know it was the game start because that's where I always started when I started a new game it was an extremely messy bedroom. Thanks though least the game you showed me is similar and kind of cool. And you did try, hopefully someone else out there will know it by my description where did you say I could try do you know any good retro gaming places I could post the question at? I tried putting it on answers and those sites but they would never let it stay up long enough to get an answer, they kept sending me a message saying it was taken down due to tos violation, and I have no idea how they figure it violated the tos because I read the thing over and over and saw nothing my question was in violation of, but I begun to think that answers though so popular is a bs site where anyone can hit report and get your question taken down for no good reason. I won't ever bother with answers or the other similarly popular one I can't even remember what the others called, they both did same thing to my question though.

Darn, I was hoping that would be it.  Yahoo! Answers seems like it would be a good place to start; I really don't know what you could be doing to violate the ToS.  You might want to try contacting Yahoo to find out exactly what you did wrong, although they're not known for being particularly helpful.  I myself had my Yahoo! Mail account deleted (causing me to lose all of my e-mails and contacts) recently and they refuse to give me an explanation or allow me to have access to my list of contacts.  Still could be worth a shot, though.  Anyway...

I don't know where you would have the best chance of getting the answer you are looking for, but one place worth trying is GameFAQs:

You could also give Retro Gamer a shot:
