Welcome to the CH forums. What caused your computer crash? Was the external connected to the computer at the time and turned on? Did you ever verify that the Norton Ghost data was actually there? truenorth

      Hi all is not lost,

I think you need to assign a drive letter to the external drive which you do through Windows diskmanger. How exactly depends on your windows version so could you please post your windows version.

With many versions of Ghost the drive will not be recognised until after you boot tot the Gost bootdisk.

Maxtor was not connected -comp crashed as a boot errors, Yes i checked maxtor after back up it was there.
I don't  see Maxtor  in disk manager
I can see it in device manag as a usb device but i can not do anything there
Also if i want to disconnect it, it is in the list. but that's it.

if you are using windows 7 you have to search for something as harddisk manager then you need to initialize it and after that assign a letter to it.
i didnt understand the problem totally so maybe this is an unusefull answer

If it shows up in Device Manger it should show in Disk Management also...
Right clik My Computer...select Manage...then Disk Management...
Right clik the drive and select Properties...

          Report back with the results.
