My pc is not sowing video
« on: September 06, 2005, 05:37:43 PM »
does anyone know why a computer i built isnt showing video?
??? ??? ???
its an old Packard Bell Legend 117 Supreme p1 75mhz proccesor i dont know the RAM or hdd size but i do know that everything is connected right, it has a quad speed cd drive, and a 1.44 mb floppy, with integrated video, and a 200W power supply. i build it to format hdd's and if i ever get it running then i will put a Dell p1 100mhz procceser in it. and yes the monitor is good.

Do the fans operate?

When you turn on the PC, does it look as if it is booting and loading Windows (if installed)?

If it does neither, the problem may not be with your video device.

    Try resetting the BIOS.

To reset the BIOS, take the following steps:

    1. Power down computer
    2. Take countermeasures against electro-static discharge
    3. Remove computer casing
    4. Inspect mainboard for a CMOS jump switch or CMOS battery

In case of CMOS jump switch:

Follow instructions provided with the mainboard manual.

    In case of CMOS battery:

    I. Remove CMOS battery for approximately 10-15 seconds.
II. After 10-15 seconds, place the CMOS battery back.

    5. Power on system.

Do not power on the system when CMOS jumper is set to clear_cmos or when CMOS battery is non-present.

By "clear" do you mean for the eight jumper switches to be off, or on?

EDIT: there is a battery and a jumper switch.

EDIT: No I cant get to safe mode beacause there is no video at all.

I have never tried to reset a Compaq BIOS. You should refer to the mainboard manual if you can find it. I doubt that there are eight jumpers to reset the mainboard.

Removing the battery would be my choice of action if you are uncertain, though.

See if it will boot by disconnect everything but:

    • PSU
    • 1 RAM stick
    • Motherboard
    • Videocard
