first generation i7 or second generation i5

Hey all geeky guyz ........... please help me to find out the best ....
I want to buy a laptop and after doing a lot of research i sorted out 2 laptop both of from lenovo ....
1st is :- Lenovo Y560 59-055616 with Intel® Core™ i7-740QM Processor (6M cache, 1.73 GHz)
2nd is :- Lenovo Y570 59301914 with Intel® Core™ i5-2410M Processor (3M Cache, 2.30 GHz)

I am totally confused which processor is better first generation i7 or second generation i5 .... please help me out ..... will be very thankfull to you ... hv a good day .. keep smiling ..

The best system is the one that you feel the most comfortable.  Consider what features they both have and decide which one will suit your expectations the best.

what is this answer about ....  that what i know that is good for me with that i feel comfortable ....  but i am not asking about comfortable or not .....   i asked  about processor ... first gen i7 is better or 2nd gen i5 ...... ??

I7 is newer, should be better, but if the I7 system more expensive and coming with extra baggage you don't need or won't ever use, then reconsider.

The answer is how much money do you want to spend?  With Intel processors, generally the higher the cost, the faster the processor.  I'm sure there have been some exceptions, but in general Intel prices their processors on performance.

Sandy Bridge processors(the i5 I'm talking about) has far better battery performance when compared to the first generation iX-XXXQM processors.

I think rthompson80819's statement best sums up the situation, though. Choose based on your needs-getting the absolute top-end processor is gonig to be a waste if you are not going to fully utilize its resources.

You can check the benchmark performance of any mobile CPU on the market at the above site. The i7 740QM performs slightly better than the i5-2410M.

I was also considering getting the Y570 at one point-a decent mix of a dedicated graphics cards and a good mid-range processor. I eventually settled on the MSI GE620DX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152280
i7-2630QM, GT 555M.

Costs quite a lot cheaper than many of the equivalent laptops where I live.

Higher number is not always better.  i3-2410 does it for me in a laptop.  There is a big difference in the cpu architecture from 1st gen to 2nd gen series (Sandy Bridge), 1st-GPU is on die, 2nd GPU is on chip.  On chip GPU performance rivals dedicated graphics, which saves money for the end user & is lower power, so longer battery life.
