Sorry, that's what I meant. I burned all the files that I wanted onto a couple of cds...

However, I came home today and my brother had turned on the computer and it is now running tickity-boo. So I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks again for the help, Raptor. Is there somewhere that I can rate your helpfulness? Cause you get an A+.  ;D

You're very welcome.

You might want to consider reformatting and reinstalling Windows XP. A stable installation will make for less frustration.

Try using different software than Norton. Choose from the following list:

Virus scanners
AVG Free
-- Anti virus scanner
Trend Micro Housecall
-- Online anti virus scanner.

Anti spy/malware
Microsoft Antispyware
-- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP Home and Professional only.
Spybot Search & Destroy
-- Anti spyware scanner
Adaware SE Personal
-- Anti spyware scanner

Firewalls
Use both a hardware and software firewall.
Be advised as dual software firewalls may cause problems

ZoneAlarm Free
-- Free firewall - more user friendly
Sygate Personal
-- Free firewall - more configuration options

Well, today it's decided to give me a stop error (I think that's what it's called), so we're gonna go with the clean install.
