To add to patio's comment . For about the past year my news viewing (a news junky) my wife and i have taken to watching RT on a nearly daily basis in the belief that one is best informed if one is aware of the "alternative" news sources (certainly not exclusively but as well). The bias of RT reporting (particularly as it pertains to U.S. events) borders on the absurd--but certainly toward the sensational. So certainly any pronouncements emanating from them should be taken with a large grain of salt.truenorth

Just wow, that's up there with some sci-fi greats like 'Weapons at maximum' (why wouldn't they be?) or 'The singularity is about to explode' and 'prepare to fire' yeah it's just a button mate.
So yes ridiculous, but I do wonder at the phrasing of the question.

FBI might shutdown the Internet on March 8, 2012? Is this true?

I wasn't aware that America 'owned' the internet let alone give power to the FBI to 'shut it down' even if that were possible.

Sorry I know I'm just making the obvious comments but this one really bugged me.

The title is a misconception. When the FBI disables the servers that are acting as DNS servers, anyone who has not fixed the DNS settings on their computer will be effectively cut off the internet. That being said, installing Comodo ISS (or firewall) gives you the option of using their DNS settings to prevent poisoning, and any computer technician worth your time could figure out the issue.

    Source?
Do you want to be that mass-media has never been shut down by a large government?
It has happened and can happen again.

Edit: Some others are taking it as a probability.

Aren't you the one making claims now? Why does Patio saying that "Governments can't control a worldwide network" need a source, and yet you saying that mass-media(presumably, in this context, mass as in global and not national) has been shut down by large government doesn't? ("mass media" is not the internet, anyway).

Any censorship or control by a government doesn't extend outside the government's jurisdiction. The U.S government couldn't shut down the internet anymore than the chinese government could.

The level of government cooperation required to censor the internet, the amount of agreement, among politicians from varying nations, would be heartwarming if it was at all possible, but the fact is that most politicians in the same country can't agree on most things, to expect all the high-level politicians in a rather large set of country to agree unambiguously not only to censor media but to also be entirely quiet about it is nothing but conspirational thinking.
