    Question about RAM
    « on: October 11, 2012, 12:06:04 AM »
    Hi,

I have a problem and i hope you guys can help me sort it out.
First of all before digging deep into my problem, i`d like to first
    set my system details here:

    OS      :   Windows 7 64bit
    Processor   :   Intel Core2Duo 2.93GHz
    Motherboard    :   ASUS P5QPL-AM
    HHD      :   Western Digital 1TB
    RAM      :   8GB (2x4GB) RAM (i.e 800MHz PC2-6400) (1.8v)
SMPS/PSU   :   Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 600W
    Graphics   :   nVidia GTX570
    DVD Drive   :   DVD Writer

Problem is that recently i upgrade my RAM to 8GB(2x4GB) 800MHz PC2-6400... i think
my MoBo supports upto 8GB of RAM and didn`t got any problems running the system
    after installing the new RAM...

But when i run CPU-z, it shows that my RAM is running at 333.3MHz and not that 800MHz which
is supposed to run under it.

I have even tried tweaking the BIOS and setting the DRAM frequency to 800MHz and Memory Voltage to 1.8v,
and after rebooting the system and running the CPUz it show only 400MHz and not that 800MHz which is supposed to be displayed.
(*** I`ve even updated BIOS to the latest  version)

Well, is it something to do with my motherboard?  or is it that the manufacturer of RAM is taking me for
a ride by simply selling products with fake printed details on the RAM....

One More thing.... On the 8GB(2x4GB) RAM that i recently bought... the details written on it are as follows:
HP 4GN PC2-6400 (DDR2-800) DIMM Memory (....***this is written on the Plastic casings of each RAM)... and on the RAM stick of 4GB each in it was written....

    MT16HTS51264HY-800A1
    4GB 2RX4 PC2-6400U-666-12-E0
    Product of US
    DDAAJY5003

... and the sealed stickers on each of the RAM casing are printed HP (HP as the manufacturer)...
but on running CPU-Z (CPUID) i get the Manufacturer as
    Kingston
    PC2-5300 (333MHz) and Part Number as 16HTS51264HY-667A1.

Folks, am pretty confused here... Please HELP!!!

I've changed the title of your post from HELP HELP HELP to something more descriptive of your question so that people scanning the forum will know whether or not it is something about which they can help.

Its correct 800Mhz showing at 400Mhz, but had to link this to show you technically why.

It's Double Data Rate, therefore the 'effective clock speed' is double the value you're seeing.

Thanks for the rep and thank you once again for enlightening me...

but, the problem is that my new RAM 8GB (2x4GB) (i.e 800MHz PC2-6400) (1.8v)) as mentioned below

      MT16HTS51264HY-800A1
      4GB 2RX4 PC2-6400U-666-12-E0
      Product of US
      DDAAJY5003

Even CPU-Z doesn`t even show my RAM MHz as 400MHz... but shows that it`s only 333.3MHz....
and only after when i tried tweaking the BIOS and setting the DRAM frequency to 800MHz , CPU-Z show RAM frequency as 400MHz.

but when i set DRAM frequency to AUTO (MODE) in BIOS .... CPU-Z read/shows my RAM as only having 333MHz.... any idea what might have gone wrong?

And since then after upgrading from 4GB to 8GB ... i haven`t notic'd any change in/of performance on my system.

      POOR ME!!!

How is the RAM reported in the bios...   ? ?

u mean under system information on the BIOS... well... nothing much more about the RAM but just 8GB... and no frequency details and nothing much but just the gigs.

Seems like HP has incorrectly rebranded the RAM, i.e. HP bought them from Kingston & put the wrong labels on them.  The SPD info is imbedded in the module as Kingston PC2-5300.  Return the RAM because it's not what you paid for.  Did you get them from HP or somewhere else?
