    MYSTERY??
    « on: April 28, 2013, 04:25:47 AM »
    Hiya Fellas!

I run Windows 7 Home and I have a puzzlement.    I have a number of USB external drives ...two of which are Western Digital.  My red one I use to backup to, my blue one I use as a portable aplication storage.    Suddenly, I cannot see the contents of these drives!    My machine makes the conection sounds when I plug them in and If i go deep into my device management they are there to see, but they do not at all appear under 'My Computer' consiquently I cannot get to them or read them???

This has just recently happend for some reason????    ::)

    Any ideas guys????   >:(   >:(

Are you using the front uSB ports on your PC when trying them ? ?...or a multi-port hub ?

I have two USB's at the front of my computer Patio which I normally use.   As I say, I have had the drives working from here without problem in the past??????

Front ports are notoriously known for being under-powered...
I'd bet if you hook them up to another port it'll show fine.

Connect each one 1 at a time on the PC they showed on...
Open Disk Management...right clik the drive and select Properties.
Post back with a screenshot or all the info it reports.

You said you can see them in Disc Management? If so, try changing the Drive letter and see if that fixes your problem.

I have solved this prob with my trusty 'Manchester Screwdriver' mates .......I do thank you for all the input tho.     It has been put to me that not using the 'Hardware Release' tab on exit may not have helped here.     I am using it now every time anyways.   ;D
