Cannot find PROTMAN.DOS driver at startup
« on: October 05, 2005, 11:15:48 AM »
I am receiving a message that the PROTMAN.DOS driver cannot be found at startup.  The driver is not on my Windows 98 CD.  Is there anyway this driver can be downloaded preferably for free?

Also, would this driver hinder installation of a DLINK wireless card?

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you on, or have you been on, a network that requires DOS real mode drivers? Protman.dos is a protocol manager for DOS networks and requires a protocol.ini file that you must build. If you are not on such a network (Vines, Novell, etc.) you do not need it. There is probably an entry in your config.sys file that is trying to call these drivers.  If it is not required, remove the entry.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

Of course it's a network.  You said:  "...DLINK wireless card..."  This is a network card.
