« on: October 05, 2005, 05:52:34 AM »
I had vorus on my computer and all disk aspace was used.  I could not start computer.  I erased my hard disk drive by using CH000186 instructions.  I am trying to install Windows 98 using boot disk and instructions per CH000569.

After starting computer with boot disc, I change from A drive to D drive.  But I can not I can not read cd Win98 when I press enter.

Did I llose driver for CD-ROM?  How to get and install driver?

Well there is no way you can lose the CD drive especially on startup. There is a CD drive. When you use a boot disk the CD drives get push up some letters

Assuming you have only 1 cd drive and 1 hard drive
Ex. A-Floppy

     C: Hard Drive

      D: CD ROM

When you get a command in start up you dont use D the drive will be pushed to the next letter E

A:/> <-Floppy
C:/> <- HArd drive
D:> <- Ram Drive
E:.> <- Temperory new CD drive

other options for running CD:

The easy way to run from the CD is enter system setup to change you boot sequence to CDROM first

Did you select the "Start Computer with CDRom Support" when you booted to the floppy ? ?

Best thing for you to do is.. reformat first. Using the startup disk please go to option2: start CD without CD ROM support and use the following command prompts at A:/>

fomat c: /s

It will erase your hardrive and partion it to fat32

Yes ......... Thats why you need a win 98 Boot disk .....it contains a generic cd driver to allow the cd drive to see the win 98 disk once the boot disk has loaded .
