I have Time Warner cable service, currently have desktop computer with a wireless router.  I would like to eliminate the desktop computer and use a laptop with WiFi only.  Is this possible?  If so what equipment do I need.  Thank for any help !

Yep, you're set. Just make sure you can receive the WiFi properly with the laptop before eliminating the desktop :-)
