Hi

You can use Unstoppable copier in the Settings tab there is a tick box for keep file time and date.

http://www.roadkil.net/program.php?ProgramID=29

There is also rawcopy from the same author that will make a sector copy of you old drive to the WD but that will make the WD have a partition the same as the old drive same size etc.

Nope! Roadkill does the exact same thing, even with 'Keep File Time/Date' ticked!!

Going to try a penalty reboot and then give up.

Nope. Reboot didn't help.

Shoot, I was really hopeful.

That just doesn't make sense, does it?

OK, last but not least.

I'm trying to run Robocopy, but I'm a little stymied by the support docos. (It's been like 30 years since I've had to read DOS manuals).

I basically want to mimic the old drive on the new drive. So, same directories, subdirectories, etc.

I tried running:

robocopy m:\ e:\ /ts /s /copyall
And it appeared (I stopped it) to only be copying FILES, not directories.

I also tried it without the '/copyall' param.

What am I missing?

I just tried robocopy e:\ j:\ /ts /s /copyall where e: is one hard drive and j: is another and it made an exact copy on the previously empty drive j: of the existing folders and files on drive e:

This is the console output of robocopy (both drives are FAT32 which explains the "NTFS security may not be copied" warning)

I blanked the destination drive, (j:) added a new folder, put some text files in it, and tried again. Afterwards, the new folder is still there, and the folders and toplevel files from e: are alongside it

Apologies, I realized I was cancelling the process too soon - long story, but it DID create directories.

Problem is, even with Robocopy, I'M STILL GETTING THE NEW DATE NOT THE ORIGINAL DATE!!! What the What is the matter with me?

Here's the original drive:

Here's the command I ran:

And here's an example of the copy:

Dan: You're gonna need to get someone to fix my computer.                     Kim: What's wrong with it?                     Dan: It's in several pieces on my floor.

looking at /? for ROBOCOPY it looks like you need /DCOPY:T to "COPY Directory Timestamps.".
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Hmmm. Looking at the doco I posted last night, I thought that's what the /TS switch was for.

So you're suggesting:

C:>robocopy m:\ e:\ /dcopy:t /s /copyall

Is that correct?

I'm no expert at this but I'd give that a go. From what I can tell /copyall and /ts are possibly referring to file timestamps, rather than directory timestamps. I don't know if this is actually the case, though. I've probably used Robocopy less than most people here.

It appears it's /COPY not /DCOPY...

BUT IT'S STILL NOT WORKING.

Turns out I dl'ed an old version of Robocopy. (Of course that's the only one I could find on the MSFT site).

Standing by for new results...
