either type windiag in the run box......or download sisoftsandra/everest......and run the tests....

what colling has this /laptop/pc got.

but..it has progressed to the point that I can't do anything. After about 60 seconds the monitor shuts off and says 'no input signal'.

Did you test the monitor on another computer? Sounds like the monitor is messed up your video card sounds fine after all them probbing.

Yes, actually I hooked up my husband's monitor tonight and it did exactly the same thing.

    A recap.

    You swapped monitors so that's not the problem.
    Drivers are right so .....as above
    You checked resolution so.....as above.
    The card is seated so.....as above.
    It happens in safe mode so that rules out viruses etc.

    Check your refresh rate
    Right click Desktop>Properties>Settings>Advanced
    and if that doesn't help I'd try swapping video cards.
