When I scroll down the list of contacts in Gmail I find that only part of the list is screened.  Why?

What do you mean by "is screened"?

I mean that the screen (or is it called MONITOR?) does not show the full list of my contacts.
The list does not show the last few contacts. Have tried to raise the page to show the hidden part of the list but the page would not budge.

You should see a scrollbar to the right of the contacts when you hover your mouse over them.  And, you should be able to scroll the list by using the scrollbar.  It looks like the image below:
