uninstall Win 8 then install Win 7
« on: September 09, 2013, 09:16:00 PM »
Hi guys! My friend bought a brand new Samsung Series 3 370r laptop with a pre-installed Windows 8 64-bit Single Language.

Is there a way to downgrade or reformat the current Win 8 to Win 7 using a Win 7 bootable DVD? How?

Or need to slave the Hard Drive to another PC to reformat first?

Links for similar thread will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Win 7 first, then Win 8.
The recommended method is to install the early version first. Shrink the partition, or divide it. Then install the newer version.

Boot to the W7 DVD. Choose the option to delete the partition - then recreate the partition, format, install. Then install all W7 drivers (starting with the chipset driver). Needless to say, you'll lose all data so be sure to save anything you need first.

Actually, that's our problem. We cannot boot any Win 7 DVD. By the way, we are using a portable DVD drive (via USB)

Settings > Change PC Settings > General > Advanced Start Up
Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings > disabled "Secure Boot"

What is wrong with the onboard DVD player ? ?
If you are doing it from an external you need to enable boot to USB in the BIOS...

I'm wondering how long your friend tried using Windows 8 before jumping to this conclusion?  And, why does he/she want to downgrade?

The laptop has no on-board DVD player.

We are having a hard time in BIOS. In the boot options, we cannot find USB.

Then it doesn't have it...and you may be out of luck...

Many new laptops....especially since Vista are tied to the OS that was pre-installed...this is a budget maneuver and mostly by design.
It's 1 reason they can sell them so cheaply....
