moving files and settings win 7

I am planning on moving my win 7 laptop files and settings to another laptop that I intend to install win 7 and want to know how to keep my settings and files to it as I have set it up and like it the way I have it can anyone help?

if I choose to use a cable is there a specific cable that I need to get? does it have to be a "windows easy transfer cable" or what can I use, :I don't want to spend alot of money on a cable that I can get cheaper
