Would anyone be able to tell me how I can get rid of Avira free antivirus?

I unstalled as it  would  always pop up with incorrect messages.    I installed free Avast, but Avira is still on there,   I tried the unstall Avira tool but that did not work.      I have been to program files and tried to delete it from there but even unlocker cannot get rid of it.   Unlocker says it will at next boot time but it does not.

Cannot do a system restore as not sure what date it was installed.    I cannot get to safe mode anyway where I would go to unstall it, but do not know how to get to safe mode,  One computer tech told me to restart then right away hold down the shift key but that takes me right back to my desk top.    I have  menu 7 on Windows 8.1 as much easier to work with,     I even tried unstalling avast and malwarebytes antimalware, rebooted and right clicked on computer to get to system restore but would get a message back that it did not restore.
This laptop has been in a computer shop twice this month.  Would like to toss it into the bay.  It is only seven months old.  It does not even let me recover.  Thanks.  Anna Ruth Baldwin

Did you mean you've used the Avira Removal Tool already? https://www.avira.com/en/support-download-avira-antivir-removal-tool
Try downloading a new uninstaller from the link and then run in safemode. Tap F8 immediately on early splashscreen then run the exe file from there. If the problem persist use Free Revo Uninstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

could not get into safe mode, tried three times and when starting The f8 key AND TAPPING IT but no good
then tried getting there by starting and holding the shift key but no good.   I have three unstallers – Revo, IOBIT and Advance uninstall and none show Avera.

I finally tried Avrera removal tool again two hours ago and all it  showed is 0 for infected  files

What happens when you try to uninstall it by going to Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features? Windows 8 comes with it's own AV, Windows Defender. If you're going to install a third-party AV you will need to de-activate Windows Defender.

The only thing I can think of is to do a fresh install of Avira and then uninstall it. I installed Avira a few days ago and I find that it appears to be a very good AV. I'm not getting those warnings that you appear to be receiving. The only reason why I went to Avira is because updates for MSE will end next Tuesday and Avast has a problem with registering every 12 months or so.

Thank you.     I had tried that one time but will try again.  Will unstall avast...Although Avira is still in here somewhere.    It is on my task bar and it will scan.  Mystery to me!  As I have mentioned before it is in my program files but will not delete even with unlocker.    I even tried going to regdit  one other time when I had it  and tried to delete but would get cannot delete key.  Soon as I can afford it I am going back to Windows 7 as rarely any problems there

I UNSTALLED AVAST, RBOOTED WENT TO PROGRAM FILES AND THERE AVAST WAS BUT WOULD NOT DELET EVN WITH UNLOCKER. SO I INSTALLED AVG, FOUND 5 THREATS, DELETED THOSE, REBOOTED AND AVIRA STILL IN MY TASK BAR.  I GIVE UP.

Having Avast, Avira and AVG is not a good thing...choose one...and let's help you get rid of the others.

When I go to the local disk c, program data, avast is there and unlocker will not delete it and when I go to program files avast is there and unlocker will not delete it.

Guess I will stay with Avira a while

Hi, is it still under warranty? What do you mean cannot restore?
