Display of tabbed sites changes after configuration

I read newspapers online and when I click on the tabs they are displayed on a full screen with photographs.  After my computer is security scanned and then configured this changes as now the sites are displayed as text down one side of the screen What can I do?

What software is scanning and what browser are you using?

Mozilla Firefox.  AVG scans and then Windows seems to also scan, after which it configures.  (excuse my ignorance!)
