    Firefox/Chrome Issues in Windows 8
    « on: May 05, 2014, 05:23:01 PM »
We got a new HP a few weeks ago.
There are three accounts for the XP.
On account "1" everything works fine.

On my account, I'm having strange issues.
When I go to firefox (because I do not want to use internet explorer) and use the search I get told

    Quote
    Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during the connection to search.google.com.
    Peer's certificate has invalid signature.
    (Error code: sec_error_bad_signature)

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.  Alternatively, use the command found in the help menu to report this broken site

    So to troubleshoot:
    1) I switched to a google search, and got the same problem.
    2) I made my account change to be an administrator, same problem.
    3) I went to options---advanced---certificates "When a server requests my personal certificate: and switched it from ask me every time to select one automatically" and got a similar prompt.
    4) I tried google chrome and could not connect
    5) On Internet explorer, I can access sites.
-On the user 1 account, I can go on firefox and chrome with no issues.

This has been going on for days, does anybody have a suggestion?
    Thanks.

That should not happen.  And you should not have to do that much troubleshooting.

IMHO, this is an issue  with the ISP. Contact your ISP and tell them what happened.

Try this. Turn off both computer and modem for an hour. Power back on and try your tests again, using the same browsers and users you did before.

So I created a new account, and had no problems yesterday.  Today however I am getting the same problem.

          Any solutions?

You might reduce the problem my fusing the DNS cache.
          At command line say:
          ipconfig /flushdns
          it should respond:
          Windows IP Configuration
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

That may eliminate the SSL error.

Have you run a virus scan?

Try reinstalling the problematic browser including cookies, history, cache files.

I get the same problem in chrome, but not IE.

Try reinstalling the problematic browser including cookies, history, cache files.

I did this.  I also deleted the user account and created a new one.
When I did, at first it worked fine.
The next day though, the problem happened again.

It worked, the flushdns, sort of.

So, I did it, and then opened mozilla and when I typed computer hope on "www" it came up on a yahoo search.

When I typed gmail in the "www" it came up.
When I typed gmail into the search box, the same error came back.

I went into IE and was able to get gmail up, but:
-It gave me the certificate message but with the opton to ignore
-When gmail loaded, it was slow, and the full page did not come up.  The icons for email reply/delete did not show and I could not download attachments.

So what is the problem and the solution?

You may7 wish  to visit the Virus and Spyware forum.
Thee are some kings of ad ware that hijack the browser, but do not get found by your virus scan. You might need some kind of Ad Cleaner. Some are free to try.
Over in the Virus forum you will see some notes about what  you might try.

Go back to a command prompt and type in the following::
              ipconfig /release and hit enter
              ipconfig /renew and hit enter...

Re-boot and see if any changes.
