    Icons and desktop gone
    « on: August 06, 2014, 09:50:11 PM »
First, I was referred to this site from someone at my work so I'm hoping they were right :)
My pc is dell inspiron 3521 touch screen and came with windows 8 but upgraded to 8.1 a few months ago. Running Avast antivirus.
Now then, I have big issues and hoping to get help. My mouse quit working on windows 8 apps about a week ago and thought that was odd but just went with it. Then a couple days ago or so my pc would freeze up and I would have to hit ctrl alt del and start taskmanager and it would unfreeze for a few mins and then refreeze. I ran a full system scan and red flags started flying with trojans and malware.
My systems setting says I'm running windows 8 however microsoft.com says I'm running windows 7. So I really am unsure what I'm running.
I have now installed malware bytes in attempt to help.  Ran it but didn't help pc.
I have a huge ton of music and movies on pc that I don't have backed up anywhere.
I'm praying my pc is repairable but I don't know what to do. I am now using my cell phone to type this so I can't copy and paste anything. Can you help??

    Running Avast antivirus.
Windows 8.1 comes with its own AV called Windows Defender. If you wish to run another AV, you will need to disable Windows Defender.

You can check this at Control Panel, System.

You should back all that up to an external drive or DVD's as soon as possible.
