Exploding CDs
« on: July 23, 2004, 07:06:17 AM »
What would cause a CD to explode inside a CD drive, and how do I get all the little pieces out once it happened. I have had my computer upside down shaking it, but I still can't seem to get everything out. The CD tray is stuck open too. it closes, but then opens immediately afterwards. (Is this because I used the emergency open hole?)

Use the forum search.  There was a long thread about exploding CDs a month ago.

I had to buy a new CD drive.  The CD that blew up was one of my son's games that he got from  a cereal box.  I was told by the guy at the store that those ones are notorious for shattering.  They are unbalanced and flimsy.  Apparantly, according to him the ones from Blizzard games are bad too.

I have played many Blizzard games (Legal ones)

They have a reputation to keep up. I seriously doubt they would give out dodgy CD's without either recalling them or switching distributors. (I believe that is how those companies are called?)

the cereal box was most likely damaged and the CD inside it took a beating.
