You are trying to install Visual Studio 2005 on XP SP-1.
Is that right?
Why not use Windows XP SP-3? Do you need the SP-1?
This is the general reference of the 2005 version.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms950416.aspxMicrosoft Visual Studio is a complete set of development tools for building ASP.NET Web applications, XML Web services, desktop applications, and mobile applications. Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual C#, and Visual J# all use the same integrated development environment (IDE), which allows them to share tools and facilitates in the creation of mixed-language solutions.
From this above one can see there is potential of difficulty in installing Visual 2005 on some older systems. Or Vice Versa. The J# language has some issues that can not be resolved. Specifically, Microsoft can not support it.
I wold suggest you only install the components you need and do not include the J# package.
Here is another idea that can work for you. Shrink the hard drive with a suitabler tool and create a new partition. If the drive is near full., you u may have to off load some stuff you not longer user, like old movies you downloaded.
Then do a clean install of Windows XP on the new partition. Do not update it. Then install Visual Studio 2005. It should work.
Some programs require the .NET framework. This can cause a conflict with installation of Visual Studio 2005 in some cases. So don't in stall those programs.
