I have been part of the Windows 10 beta program since day one and I’ve witnessed the evolution of an OS that blends the best aspects of Windows 7 and Windows 8. Unfortunately Microsoft MSFT -0.15% has now also confirmed that Windows 10 will kill some of its predecessors’ most loved features…

He claims that:
+  Watching DVDs requires separate playback software
+  Windows 7 desktop gadgets will be removed ainstalling Windows 10.
+  If you have a USB floppy drive, you will need to download the latest driver

And some other stuff he thinks is important.
 - I could can less. I watch DVDs on by TV.
 - I pit gadget son my desk, not my computer.
 - I hate floppy drives.

What about you?   :)

This appears to be the case. I can't get Win10 to play a DVD with WMP.

I expect this is because DVD decoder software requires royalties to the DVD Forum for commercial software, and Microsoft decided not to include it with prerelease versions. Considering most people who are "serious" about watching DVDs either watch it using other devices or they use other software anyway, I don't think this is a problem even if it isn't temporary for the pre-release. (I seem to recall The Win7 Beta couldn't play DVDs either)

Well, considering they were an unfixable (by design) remote exploit, I hardly see this as a negative, myself. Let's see, have a bunch of silly eye-candy gadgets on my desktop, or be susceptible to remote execution exploits that could allow software to take over my PC. I think that choice is pretty obvious.

This is untrue. My USB Floppy drive works when I plug it in without downloading or installing anything.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Its also worth noting that Windows 8 also doesn't support the desktop gadgets or DVD playpack in WMP.  Its also important to remember that while you can't play DVDs in WMP there is nothing yo stop you simply using something else like VLC to play them.

My HP laptop (Win 8 ) came with CyberLink Power DVD; it works well for DVD playing.  Surely, all manufacturers put this software or an alternative on all new systems.
