New MSI GT72 Dominator G-1445 Review

Price: $1500 MSRP, but I've seen it for $1400 or so

In short, pros:
+ Very good temperatures, both of the GT72 body and CPU/GPU
+ Very good keyboard
+ Very good 3D performance with room for GPU OC
+ Good sound quality for a laptop
+ Nice IPS 1080p display
+ Not loud
+ 4xM.2 for storage
+ DisplayPort, HDMI, 2 x USB 3.1
+ GSync enabled by default
+ 16GB RAM
+ MXM replaceable GPU

Cons:
- bulky/big, not really on the mobile side
- not lightweight as other laptops with GTX 970M
- Did I miss anything important?

There are other laptops with such a 3D performance, but usually they lack GSync and we consider the Clevo laptops (like the P650s), no OS included in price and with 16GB RAM, the price comes close to the GT72. Also, the MXM GPU

So, bottom line, very good 17.3" gaming laptop, except size and weight

 But how do I know MSI will still be around two years from now?

It's just a typical "gamer" laptop - Really nothing special about it over the multitude of similar machines from the likes of ASUS and Lenovo.

It will do the job if you absolutely must have a laptop but in most cases you would be better off getting a desktop for gaming and a cheap laptop for when you need portability.

I wouldn't really look at it having an MXM GPU as a massive benefit other than replacing the card if it fails - MXM GPUs are very tricky for compatibility and are extremely hard to buy, even when you do find them for sale they are impractically expensive.

1. Many laptops are typical. In this case, it's slightly different as you get some other stuff for the price point (though I would wait for the price to go down). Other laptops, including MSI, Asus, Gigabyte do not offer GSync and USB 3.1 currently + good thermals. Not that it's that special, but still
2. MXM GPUs are not extremely hard to buy, but they are not cheap when new and you need a bios update. However, thinking few years ahead, if your laptop still lives, you can replace your MXM with some used GPU
