Getting to c-prompt out of Windows
« on: July 26, 2004, 04:18:30 PM »
I hope I make sence here. Although correct spelling is out of the question :).
I have been trying for most of the morning to get to the c-prompt without being in Windows. My fingure is tri-colored from tapping the F8 key. All I can come up with is softmode. " Bring DOS back please.

 I'm running WinXP Pro. I865 PE with a Intel 3.0 processor. G-force 2 vid card and 512 mem. 160 HDD. Split C / E. 65% free.

In a tip from one of the sites I belong to there was an artical conserning stored history in DOS/ what ever this is they use now. c-prompt. It does not recognize the deltree command. You have to use " delete*.* ", without the quotations. But ???????????
Is there a way to get to the c-prompt without going through Windows. :-[

WhiteRiver...I don't know what it is your trying to do.....but if you want a C: prompt......why not .....click "start" , then "Run" type cmd and press enter and you have a C: prompt.......or if you don't like that .....click start , All programs , Accessories , then select  command prompt .

    Hope this helps ,

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

In windows XP try holding the F Lock key if you have one while hitting the F8 key. Good Luck!

DOS is an entirely different creature on an XP machine.  Even if you do get a prompt, you probably won't be able to access your NTFS harddrives.  One method of achieving C prompt: once you've installed Windows XP, is to use a boot disk http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm from a previous version of windows, and then utilitize a dos NTFS reader http://www.download.com/3000-2094-10225436.html to access your harddrives.  Hope this helps, good luck finding your solution!  http://www.totalaccesssolutions.com
