    New Video Card
    « on: January 05, 2016, 08:34:17 AM »
I am trying too upgrade my video card, since it's not able too handle newer games.  What I have in the machine is a ATI Radeon X1300.  I suppose, that if I get any card now it would be suffice enough.  What I have is Bioshock, Assassian Creed, Batman, Sims 3, Skyrim, Dead Riseing 2, Halo.  I also, need it too be dual video with vga and dvi.

If you could stretch your budget enough you can't go wrong with a GeForce 950 or if you need something a bit cheaper the previous 750 is also a great card for the price.  They are very good value cards that run cool and use very little power.

Also be sure to check your power supply is up to the job of powering a reasonably good video card for the cards above you would need a minimum of 300w from a reputable name brand unit.

The difference between GDDR3 and GDDR5 itself isn't mindblowing but I can't think of any good video cards that use GDDR3 so I'd stay away from any that do.

GDDR5 and GDDR3 is the type of memory on the video card, DDR3 is the RAM that would be on your motherboard.

What are you seeing and where ? ?

Not all ads use the G designatioin describing the vid card RAM...
All thats important is the DDR designation.

In other words there is no difference between DDR3 and GDDR3...just how they are saying it...

So since, I have DDR 3 RAM, I should go with a GPU with DDR 3

                NO...they are completely seperate entities...

You do NOT have to match a vid cards memory to what your Motherboards memory is...
So put that out of your mind and buy the best you can get for your budget...

Your type of RAM is totally separate from your video card memory, get GDDR5.  Don't even think about that card you linked, it's almost 8 years old!  Don't go any lower than the NVIDIA 7xx or 9xx series or the AMD Radeon R7/R9 series.
