Problem reinstalling xp?

After various problems I decided to reinstall xp home oem.
reformatted h/d,starts installing but hangs after 35% of setup is copying files. this is my 2nd attempt the 1st one stopped at 30%. please help :( :                                                        

specs:400 psu,amd athlon 2000+,1024pc133sdram,M/b k7sem ECS,dell 17"lcd,Maxtor 40g h/d,lite-on cdr,samsung dvd, floopy/d,Leadtek Geforce2 mx64.

    Test your ram. http://www.memtest.org/
    Let it run for a couple of hours.

      After you unzip the downloaded .zip file you will find a readme.txt.
      Here is part of what it says.

      For Windows, unzip the package into a directory like C:\memtest, insert a
          blank floppy into your a: disk drive and run the install.bat file. As the
          install prompts you, to use memtest directly, leave the disk in the drive
          and reboot your machine.

      Also check that CD for scratches/smudges...
