2 crt cables 15 pin 1 led cable
    « on: February 10, 2016, 10:15:41 AM »
I have two 15 pin crt cables all I want to do is connect the bare wires together to make an extension for a led monitor if I soldier pin 1 to pin 1 and so on will this work or do they need to cross over?
Also this monitor has 24 pin connector any thought on what this is used for it is a HP 1530?

The only information I can find suggests the monitor has VGA and DVI-D.

The OP wants an extension cable.
IMHO it is best to buy a ready made cable. Building cable is no fun at all.

Very long cables may require special attention to detail.

The 24 pin plug is likely to be DVI .
    As explained here http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001485.htm

You can get a vga to DVI cable like this one

    http://www.datapro.net/products/dvi-to-vga-analog-video-cable.html

You can buy them from just about anywhere

I was going to use 2 vga monitor cables and soldier the ends that go into crt monitors together to make one cable until I noticed on one of the cables they did not use pin 9 or 10, so I just used 15 individual wires to connect computer to monitor. It does not light up the screen all that happens is the power light goes from orange to green more than likely a bad lcd. This monitor requires drives but I did not instal as I do not think it has anything to do with making the monitor function.

The most likely reason it didn't work is because your DIY solution, particularly as from your original description the monitor doesn't have a VGA plug.

I'd strongly just suggest to go and buy the proper cable, they aren't that expensive - video cables have sheilding.etc that you won't be able to achieve through jamming individual wires into connectors.
