Its a feature that is available on this laptop that allows for you to format the hard drive from the BIOS.
Its quite possible that Windows 10 is either just corrupt as per a bug with your specific laptop and 10 or the hard drive itself is not healthy and might need to be replaced.
Do you have the original installation media for this laptop to reinstall or perform a repair installation back to it?
I do not believe your issue to be that of a virus, but instead a glitch or hardware failure. One of the most common ways that Windows has troubles is if the laptop was going through an update and it wasnt plugged into power supply off the wall and so the battery drains out and the update is then partial and corrupts the OS as the system runs out of juice to keep it going. I have even seen people who take their laptop somewhere and work on it and then its time to leave and they go to shut down and the system starts to update and then they have no time to wait for it to get done with its update and so they either place the laptop into their bag while its still running and is left to run only on battery power and hopefully not overheat in the laptop bag, or hold the power button in to force shut it down because they really need to run along and have no time to wait for the 23 updates to complete etc.
