    Wifi booster/extender/ repeater
    « on: August 19, 2016, 01:13:46 PM »
Im not really familiar with these devices. I need help about it. ATM it is very important for me.

1.Do they can bypass router security, if they are simply plugged into socket?
    2. Is there routers routers available, who can work normal and not needed LAN wire?

      1. No
      2. Define "work normal".

        1. No

        2. To be access point (AP). Just to do all router functions.
For exmaple my router is plugged to 'Lan wire" and 'cable wire'. ( cable wire goes to || I dont know what device it is || but it is written on it "POWER ACTIVE  LAN POE". So my router must have plugged 3 wires in total to work.)

And I asked, is there some kind of routers, who would not require these wires, and just being enought to be mounted to the socket?

Most routers  sold today for home use are both Wireless and Ethernet
This link claims to know which are best:
        http://www.gadgetreview.com/best-wireless-router-for-home-gaming-mac-overall-2015-2016

Here is an image of a favorite.

Four antenna is not really needed. But looks good.

The level of security depends much on the choices you make.

Presently I am using a router with modem provided by my Internet company. I can either git into it with Ethernet or with wireless. I have selected apasswordtahtI believe is secure.

Also, I have a repeater in the tool shed to let my daughter have Internet in here apartment behind the  house. It has the same password. Works good.

So the router can be without ports? ( talking about WAN and ethernet Ports, those at the router back. )
If yes, it means they can be plugged to any socket and capture internet, or socket must be specific?

Rear view of a typical wireless router for home use.

The image is from this page:
          https://www.verizon.com/home/accessories/verizon-high-speed-wifi-gateway/
Neatgear also makes a router that is similar to this.

Any computer or device that wants to connect via wireless must use a password or comply with some kind of security method.
Password is not required for a Ethernet connection. Therefore, the router must be place in a locati9on that has a locked door or restricted physical entry.

To my knowledge, most modern Wi-Fi routers will allow a repeater with password protection.  On some repeaters the rest button might not reset the password.

Does that answer your questions?  :)

            No.
The router connects to the modem by ethernet cable. There has to be a WAN port.
The LAN ports are to connect devices that you want wired to the router. Even switches and hubs have ports.

At least one device should be wired to the router. Security-wise, you turn OFF remote administration. You don't want someone remotely breaking into the router and changing all the settings, including the password.

A range extender may or may not have other ports. It works off the antenna of a wireless router.

                Yeah, useful info.
                Some info about my router:
                Firmware: 3.9.7 Build 090821 Rel.58159n
                Hardware: WR841N v5 00000000
Perhaps my router is old and have alot of flaws.

But I got a new question.
How about "satellite internet" ? (In this case, I figured out, that person always connects extra device (because of noise I hear), perhaps it is adapter.)

Can satellite router( or receiver ) bypass my router, im sure it requires WAN port, etc...?
Because If I Unplug my router and 'black anthena wire' ( which is connected to device named 'Power Active LAN POE') , that person goes mad.

Okay, enough of your paranoia. No more questions about bypassing routers or who is accessing your internet. I'm locking this thread and you need to stop wasting everyone's time with this nonsense on our site.
