My Computer went Postal

  Help! I went away for the afternoon and left my computer on. Came home and went to log on yahoo and internet explorer like usual only nothing would open. SO my brother "Mr Know-It-All" decided to do system restore. Only now, my computer will turn on (I have XP) But when I put in my password to open my account only my background shows up. I'm at a loss of what to do.

Run sfc /scannow with your Windows CD in the drive.

I can't, when I log in the only thing that shows up is my background. No start no desktop.
